Bluecom is a specialist mobile supplier and developer. It offers a wide range of vehicle or mobile-asset solutions based around fixed and portable devices, such as PDAs, Mobile Data Terminals and AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) equipment. These scalable, end-to-end solutions can in-turn be seamlessly integrated into existing back-office systems.

By utilizing the ubiquitous nature of GPRS networks, Bluecom has been able to ensure reliable communications both in the UK and across Europe.

Project | Vehicle Telematics - hardware design & development

The Bluecom communicator is an in-vehicle communication gateway which provides the collation and distribution of in-vehicle data. It allows real time transfer of vehicle status and GPS location, as well as messaging and updating customer records.

PJB Systems has developed the hardware for Bluecom using the ATMEL ARM7 32 bit microcontroller as the heart of the system. The ARM7 is responsible for battery monitoring and conditioning, remote data acquisition, location processing and TCP/IP sessions over GPRS. The unit has been designed to operate for long periods of time without external power. An integral GPS and GPRS module provides vehicle location information over a TCP/IP communication link. It combines a number of complimentary, purpose built accessories that extend its already comprehensive capabilities. The unit was designed to meet harsh environmental specifications and has been approved to PITO (Police Information Technology Organisation) specification.
