Gas Metering Communications Interface
PJB won recognition, through the Atmel Consultant Program, to develop a gas metering communications interface.
PJB were responsible for both electronics, hardware and embedded software in the design and implementation of a new communications interface using an Atmel AVR microcontroller. This provided the features of low cost, 1K of SRAM and 16K bytes of FLASH memory, 512 bytes of EEPROM and extremely low power.

LED Backlight for Aircraft Instrumentation
Designed and manufactured by PJB the new LED backlights were shipped to a major US helicopter manufacturer in 2007.
Providing a brighter display to offset high ambient light and improved colour range it has the capability of allowing the display to be set to a default green (very low power) background if required.
The shipping of these units represented a tangible milestone for our client giving considerable operational display performance benefits over the previous variant.

Palm OS Application
PJB were commissioned by Invensys Metering Systems to develop a Palm OS based application to acquire data from, monitor and configure their range of domestic, commercial and industrial ultrasonic gas meters.
The software enables users to perform different functions depending on their access rights. Gas meter diagnostic features were included to allow gas meter performance and gas system pipe work integrity to be monitored.
Additionally, management software designed for operating on a PC was developed, allowing easy user customisation.

Through Bulkhead Sampling System TBSS
The Smiths Detection GID-2A™ fixed Chemical Agent Detector offers the most advanced continuous detection and assessment capability available. Designed to be integrated into a wide range of collective protection systems, at sea or on land, to safeguard personnel and thereby guarantee operational capabilities.
Designed by PJB the TBSS provides a cost effective alternative to the original Through Bulkhead Unit (TBU) in supplying air samples to the GID-2ATM.

In-vehicle Communication
The Bluecom Communicator is an in-vehicle communication gateway which provides the collation and distribution of in-vehicle data. It allows real time transfer of vehicle status and GPS location, as well as messaging and updating customer records.
The ATMEL ARM7 32 bit microcontroller is at the heart of the system and is responsible for battery monitoring and conditioning, remote data acquisition, location processing and TCP/IP sessions over GPRS. The product is approved to PITO (Police Information Technology Organisation) specification.
PJB have experience in providing design and development of geospatial systems for automotive, marine and rail systems.

Audio Alarm Module
The Audio Alarm Module (AAM) has been designed by PJB for use with the CAM Chemical Agent Monitor. It will give an indication, audible from more than 20m in high winds, of chemical detection by the CAM unit or if the CAM battery is low.
The AAM has been designed for use in arduous battlefield conditions and to comply with EMC requirements.

Vehicle Telematics
PJB were responsible for the software development of the Telematics Interface Module Installation Device (TIMID) running on Workabout mx.
Designed to deliver value added management information directly into customer operating databases via a remote web hosted service.
Typical of the data automatically processed via the hosted service is cumulative vehicle mileage (both business and private), engine speed and both GSM cell and GPS satellite vehicle positioning

LED Lighting Products
Targetti Poulsen, world leaders in the lighting industry, commissioned PJB to design and develop the electronics for their range of LED architectural lighting products that provide colour, accent, marker and surface illumination for steps, walls and walkways. PJB Manufacture the electronic assemblies fully tested for the Pharo, Nimbus, Dex, Weebee & LytLED products that meet European and UL standards.
We have designed and manufactured LED Lighting products for over 10 years and have been involved in some prestigious projects. Our LED products range from simple mains powered LED arrays to full colour high power DMX512 controlled assemblies.

Special Purpose Test Equipment
PJB have designed and manufactured specialised test equipment from complex electronic multiplexing equipment, used to calibrate and test various in flight products under harsh environmental conditions, to simple test boxes and test rigs.
PJB have designed and manufactured test equipment to be used on the Euro Fighter. This involved both software and hardware development to an extremely tight schedule.

Missile Firing Integrated Recording System
This system is used for recording missile firing trials for later review and analysis. It uses an industrial computer platform with a high performance motherboard supported with plug-in peripheral devices, customised for this application.
A Matrox video capture card using MIL software provides support for a maximum of four video signal inputs. Each video input signal is decoded, the components digitised and passed to the temporary on-board frame store where the data is held until it is read through the computer interface to the main memory for further processing..

Receiver De-sensitisation Unit
This unit was designed to overcome problems associated with adjacent transmit and receive aerials used for air traffic control.
The unit was designed to operate in an internal equipment room environment. Reliability being a key issue, it was designed to give a life of at least 15 years and to comply with the relevant CE specifications and the “Low Voltage Directive”.

Dynamic Torque Gauge
The Dynamic Torque Gauge system consists of a test jig on which the unit under test is mounted and a PC running test software which provides the user with control of the test jig and records the test result data.
The test jig consists of a rotary table driven by a DC servo system to control speed and position. The torque is measured with a sensor.

VSO Sounder Beacon Sounder Beacon
PJB designed an entirely new form of Sounder Beacon using Solidworks 3D CAD software. This allowed a number of concept models to be produced for customer evaluation prior to producing a rapid prototype (SLA).
This model was used to prove the design of the lens illumination, and the fit and function of features such as clips and gave hands on sample for customer approval prior to committing to the expense of high volume injection moulding tooling.
